Collection profiles
Leiden University Libraries' collection comprises both current information sources and centuries-old special collections.
The collection profiles provide a comprehensive overview of Leiden's collection based on a classification currently used by the Leiden University Libraries. This classification is linked to the research domains and degree programmes of the university, as well as their distribution among the collection specialists of the Leiden University Libraries (subject librarians, curators, and medical information specialists). Domains where no active collection development is taking place (any longer) are not included in this overview.
For each collection profile, attention is paid to a brief history of the collection, the importance of the collection for research and education, and the priorities for new acquisitions (this latter section is also referred to as the collection formation profile or CFP).
The collection profiles are divided into two clusters: by region and by subject area. For each profile, it is indicated whether the current acquisition (the CFP) relates to the modern collection (managed by a subject librarian), the special collections (managed by a curator), or both. At present, the CFPs are only available in Dutch.
A. Region-based collection development profiles
Leiden University Libraries manage world-renowned collections in the fields of linguistics and area studies. The collections relating to South and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and the Caribbean comprise both centuries-old heritage and modern sources. Naturally, the Leiden University Libraries have also traditionally collected sources from the western world.
