Loans for exhibitions

Museums, libraries and similar institutions can request materials for exhibitions from the Special Collections.

Requests for exhibition loans

The borrower must be able to meet the general loan conditions of Special Collections. Please read our Terms and conditions of exhibition loans

It is important that your exhibition venue offers sufficient facilities to display precious and vulnerable works of art. Also, the exhibition in question has to be related to events of a scientific or cultural nature.

We require a formal written loan request at least six months in advance of the exhibition. This written request should be sent to the library's secretarial office  and contain the following information:

  • Title and exhibition dates
  • Full object description with the shelf mark or reference number
  • Contact name, telephone number and e-mail address

You can send your request to the Secretariat:

The Secretariat of Leiden University Libraries
Attn. K.F.K. De Belder, MA, MLIS
P.O. 9501
2300 RA Leiden

A loan contract will be sent after consent.

Due to the coronavirus situation, it is currently not possible for couriers of Leiden University Libraries to travel abroad. Requests for foreign exhibition loans which require the presence of one of our couriers can therefore be declined.
