Jurriaan Witteman is a Lecturer at the Centre for Linguistics. He is a cognitive neuroscientist interested in the neural basis of speech perception. He uses neuro-imaging and meta-science methods (meta-analysis, replication) to study these topics and adopts an Open Science approach.

Two Leiden University science communication projects have been awarded a WECOM grant through the Dutch Research Agenda (NWA). One project is a study of the history of the deaf community in the Netherlands and the other is of a condition that causes people to lose their way.

What is writing? And what looks like writing, but isn’t? The Pseudo or Don’t pop-up exhibition explores the boundaries of scripts. The exhibition will run at Oude UB from 9 to 26 October.

Iliana Samara is a researcher specialising in the psychology of attraction and social cognition. Her work focuses on how attraction captures our attention and influences the way we perceive and interact with others, as well as the role of coordination between individuals in forming romantic bonds.

Sandra van Dijk is Assistant Professor at the unit Health, Medical and Neuropsychology of the Institute of Psychology. Her research focuses predominantly on chronic diseases and how individuals cope with such a condition.

How has evolution shaped our curiosity? And how does that curiosity ensure that we now have the technological ability to discover whether we are alone in the universe? This was all covered during the celebration of Leiden University’s 449th Dies Natalis.
