OpenRefine is a free tool to help you work with messy data. It allows for, for example, cleaning and normalising irregularities, transforming data from one format into another, and enriching data by guided import of external (meta)data. In this introductory workshop you will learn how to use OpenRefine's powerful functionalities by 'refining' representative example messy data into a dataset that shines like a diamond.
Target audience
Researchers (all, including PhD candidates), research support staff
Preparation
You will need a laptop with OpenRefine installed. If your laptop is managed by the ISSC, you may be able to install OpenRefine from the software center directly, or request it via the Helpdesk Portal. Further instructions will be provided to registrated participants about a week before the session.
Organisation
This workshop is organised by the Centre for Digital Scholarship as part of our Summer Training Week 2026. Check the whole week's Programme overview, and register for one or more workshops through the registration form.
