New library catalogue interface

8 August 2023

On Wednesday 9 August 2023, Leiden University Libraries’ catalogue will be migrated to a new interface.

What changes will I encounter?

The catalogue layout will remain largely the same. Two minor changes users may notice are the revamped request button and some additional information regarding catalogue items.

With the update, searching for and finding databases will become easier. On 9 August, all functionalities for finding and using databases will be moved to the catalogue. The search options for, and within, Course Reserves will also be upgraded.

What preparations should I make?

  • Saved searches and search history
Saved searches and search history cannot be migrated to the new interface. Users who have saved searches in the past two years, will receive an email with additional information.
  • Saved records
Saved records (pinned titles) will be migrated and will still be available after the update.
  • Catalogue links
Permalinks to publications in the catalogue will not change. These are the links under the ‘share link’ option in the catalogue. Links taken directly from a browser address bar will likely change; please replace them with permalinks, or with the new links after 9 August.
  • Database search
Database Search is the new way to discover databases, replacing the Find Databases website. Its integration in the catalogue ensures a smoother and more cohesive experience when exploring databases and electronic resources. Links to Find Databases-searches will now redirect to the catalogue. Links to specific databases will continue working for some time, but we do recommend using permalinks from the new catalogue for better long-term access.

Using the catalogue during the migration

On 9 August, there could be a temporary interruption signing in to the catalogue in the morning.
