Collection on the Italian occupation of Libya donated

UBL recently received a donation of some five hundred books on the Italian occupation of Libya and on Arabic linguistics. UBL gratefully acknowledges this donation by a Leiden University alumnus.

The donation is a comprehensive collection on the Italian occupation of Libya. A large part of the collection is in Arabic and offers a local or Ottoman perspective. The collection also comprises Italian fascist works from the time of the occupation and later reflections on the period. The donation is a valuable addition to the large number of sources on modern Middle Eastern history already held by UBL.

Leiden’s Middle Eastern collection is the largest in the Netherlands and ranks as one of the principal collections in Europe, containing over 40,000 printed books in Arabic and more than 6,500 manuscripts from the Middle East. UBL regularly receives donations by alumni and others.
