Elsevier and Leiden University Libraries extend Fellowship Programme for Digital Scholarship
Elsevier has extended its co-operation with Leiden University Libraries’ Centre for Digital scholarship and the Scaliger Institute for two more years on a fellowship programme to support the study of digital collections.
Elsevier, the information analytics business specializing in science and health, and Leiden University Libraries (UBL) have extended the fellowship program in Digital Scholarship for two years. This program enables scholars to study the digital collections at Leiden University Libraries and enables co-operation with the innovative Centre for Digital Scholarship (CDS) at Leiden University. The program financially supports research fellows during their stay in Leiden for a period of two months. The fellows are invited to share their research outcomes through public lectures and publications. The Fellowship offers a new digital scholarship perspective building on the longstanding Scaliger Institute fellowship program focusing on the study of Special Collections at Leiden University.
Succesful co-operation
The partnership builds on last year's successful program, which includes two fellows for Digital Scholarship and Visiting Scaliger Professor Ted Underwood (School of Information Sciences and the Department of English at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), sponsored by Elsevier. They played an important role in the symposium on 21 November 2019 on Tools Criticism in Leiden University Library. Underwood delivered a public lecture on ‘The Role of the Humanities in an Information Age’.
Innovative digital analysis
The two fellows in 2019 were Paolo Rossini, PhD. (Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, Italy) and James Plumtree, PhD. (Assistant Professor at the American University of Central Asia, Kyrgyz Republic). Rossoni’s research focused on Mapping Descartes: Modeling digital networks of his life and works. Plumtree conducted research on stylometric analysis of Mid-Nineteenth Century Kyrgyz Oral Poetry. Paolo Rossini gave a lecture about his research at Elsevier’s headquarters to a large group of employees.
