Special events and exhibitions

Leiden University Libraries invites all ICAS delegates to two special evening events on Wednesday 17 July and Thursday 18 July in the University Library and the Asian Library, from 17.00 to 20.00 on each evening.

A splendid exhibition Memory of the World. Panji – Diponegoro – La Galigo has been organised especially for this conference. The Panji manuscripts, the autobiography of Prince Diponegoro, and the epic poems La Galigo are among the most imaginative literary works of Southeast Asia, and specifically of Indonesia. Their status as world heritage has been endorsed by their inclusion in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.

As an ICAS delegate you will also be able to visit two major pop-up exhibitions: on Wednesday evening with items from our East Asian special collections and on Thursday evening with items from our South and Southeast Asian special collections.  You will also be able to view panel exhibitions with highlights from our Asian collections and one of our most recent acquisitions: the Edwards collection, 19th-century photography from Southeast Asia.

Come and join the speed date session with our curators, subject librarians of the Asian Library and with the director of UBL, to explore possible research collaboration.

Visiting the libraries

Leiden University Libraries has several locations, both in Leiden and in The Hague. The University Library/Asian Library and the Law Library are conveniently located in Leiden's city centre. ICAS participants are welcome to visit these locations, either as part of a programmed event or simply to take a look inside. Your ICAS badge will give you direct access to the libraries.

Leiden University Libraries/Asian Library is the proud sponsor of the ICAS Book Prize

The ICAS Book Prize winners will be announced during the welcome ceremony on Tuesday 16 July. We congratulate the prize winners and all the authors whose books and dissertations made it to the long and short lists.
