Brill Encyclopedia of Early Christianity Online
The Brill Encyclopedia of Early Christianity Online (BEEC) is a reference work for everyone interested in the history of early Christianity.
The BEEC aims to provide a critical review of the methods used in Early Christian Studies and to update the historiography of early Christianity up to 600 CE. The focus is on the most significant topics: authors, texts, ideas, and places that played a role in the history of the development of Christianity. The variety of early Christian groups shows that it was hardly a unified or monolithic movement in the beginning. For the periodization the end of the 6th century CE was decided on as the cut-off point. By that time Christianity was established as the Orthodox and Catholic Church in both the West and the East.
Currently 330 articles are available. The encyclopedia will be complete in 2022 and will then consist of about 1300 articles.
